Move your number to us
Good news: you can bring your number with you. We call this porting, and we handle most of it for you.
Short on time? Let your AI assistant do it. Connect it to us and just say "Move my number +45 12 34 56 78 to us". See the MCP guide. Prefer to do it yourself? Here's how.
Here's how it works:
- You start the move in the app. We ask you for a couple of documents, check them and send the request to your current provider.
- Once your current provider says yes, we get a porting date and let you know.
- Until then, your number works just like it does today. After the switch, your calls come to us.
Once we have your documents, it usually takes 1 to 3 weeks. Some providers are quicker than others.
How to get started
You can move a number on both Free and Pro. See Free vs Pro. We can move numbers from the countries listed in Countries we offer numbers in.
- Start the move in the app: go to Get a new number, choose Port existing number, enter your number under Number to port and click Continue with porting. For a Danish number, also enter your CVR number. You get a temporary number right away, so you can get started while we move your number.
- Set up the temporary number the way you want it, like opening hours and who answers. Your own number gets the same setup when it moves. The Quick-start guide shows you how.
- We reach out and ask for the documents on the checklist below: a signed authorization form (LOA) and your latest invoice.
- We check them, send the request to your current provider and keep you posted by email.
Already have a number with us? You can move your old number onto it instead. Go to Settings, pick the number and use Bring your number to Phone.inc. Your setup stays the same, and the number you have with us now closes once your old number takes over.
What we need from you
- The number you want to move, with country code
- Your CVR number, for a Danish number. You enter it when you start the move.
- A signed authorization form (also called LOA or power of attorney). We send it to you, so you just sign it.
- Your latest invoice from your current provider for that number (not needed for Danish numbers)
Tip: use the exact name, company and address your current provider has on file, even if you've moved since. A mismatch is the most common reason a request gets rejected.
Moving a US number? We handle those by hand, and we email you exactly what we need.
Numbers in a series
Some numbers, like 70 numbers, are part of a series, and your provider may not be able to move just one. If so, ask them to release it from the series, or send us the full series and we'll find a way together.
Moving a Danish mobile number
You can move a Danish mobile number too, and use it in our app. We need one of these:
- The SIM card number (ICC number) for the number, or
- A signed power of attorney, if you don't have a SIM card number. This is common if the number is only used as a main number.
The contact person on the power of attorney must be the person registered with your current provider, so double-check before you sign.
Important: When a mobile number moves to us, it becomes a business number for good. The SIM card stops working, and you lose all private settings and services tied to that number with your mobile provider. From then on, calls to the number come in through our app.
Don't cancel your old subscription yet
Keep your subscription with your current provider until the move is complete. If you cancel too early, you can lose the number. Once your number has moved to us, you cancel the rest of your old agreement yourself.
What happens on porting day
- The switch. It happens on the confirmed date, at any time of day. Keep your phone and the app close.
- Your setup comes along. Your number takes over the settings from your temporary number, so calls follow your setup right away.
- Your old provider lets go. They stop handling calls to the number once the move is done.
- Your temporary number closes. You don't need it anymore, so it closes once your own number has moved.
- You get an email. We email you on the day to tell you your number is being moved.
- Give it a quick call. Check that your number rings the right people.
Check the status
You get an email from us when the porting date is confirmed, and again on porting day. Want an update in between? Write to support@phone.inc.
